Nakayama Masa ( Japanese 中山 マ サ ; born January 19, 1891 in Nagasaki ; † October 11, 1976 ) was a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the first woman to serve as a minister in a Japanese cabinet .

Nakayama studied at Ohio Wesleyan University and worked as an English teacher on her return to Japan. She married the Rikken-Minseitō politician Nakayama Fukuzō ( 中山 福 蔵 ). After the war her husband became a member of the Sangiin , and Nakyama himself ran successfully in the 1947 election in the 2nd constituency of Osaka for the Shūgiin, where she was re-elected eight times thereafter. Before the Conservative Fusion , Nakayama belonged first to the Democratic Party , then to the Democratic-Liberal Party ; after that she belonged to the Ōno faction within the LDP .

On July 19, 1960, Nakayama was appointed to his cabinet by Prime Minister Ikeda Hayato as Minister of Health and Social Affairs .

Her eldest son Tarō and her fourth son Masaaki were also Shūgiin MPs for the LDP.
