Masi is an Italian manufacturer of racing bikes and track bikes . The sale of the name and the brand Cicli Masi in the USA resulted in two manufacturers of Masi bicycles. The original company manufactures in Italy and the other is based in Vista, California , USA .

history

Faliero Masi began in 1952 in velodromo vigorelli in Milan with the production of bicycle frames , after a career as a racing driver and team mechanics behind. In 1973 his son Alberto took over the business in the Velodromo Maspes-Vigorelli . After the name and brand Cicli Masi were sold to an American businessman , Roland Sahm, Faliero began manufacturing bicycles with two assistants in a new factory in Carlsbad, California .

Disputes over production figures caused a break in relations between Masi and the American investor, and Faliero returned to Italy. The marketing rights of Cicli Masi for USA remained in the USA . Thus the Masi family could not sell bicycles under their own name in the USA . The rights for the name and brand Cicli Masi for the USA are owned by Haro Bikes.

The Masi family continued to produce bicycles in Italy . Alberto Masi later sold his own bicycles under the name "Milano 3V" in the USA .

Many well-known professional cyclists rode Masi , such as Jacques Anquetil , Antonio Maspes , Enzo Sacchi and Fausto Coppi . It is also said that other racing drivers drove Masi, including Felice Gimondi and Eddy Merckx , but this was not made public because the bikes were labeled with the team sponsors.

technology

Masi used various techniques very early on, which other manufacturers only used later. This includes enlarged diameter for the frame tubes (oversize) and reduced wall thickness. Masi also used high-quality steel grades, e.g. B. Reynolds 753 and a special sleeve technology.

Movies

In the film Four Crazy Guys - We Can All Can Make Us, None Can Make Us , Winner Best Picture - Comedy or Musical , from 1979 Dave Stoller, played by Dennis Christopher , uses a Masi road bike.
