The Masonic Temple of Fairbanks is a historic Masonic event and ritual building near the Chena River in downtown Fairbanks , Alaska .
history
The house was built in 1906 in the neo-renaissance style and was only the seat of the Tanana Commercial Company . From 1908 it served as a meeting room for the Masonic Lodge Tanana No. 3 who bought the building. In 1923, American President Warren G. Harding gave a speech on the steps of the Masonic Temple.
On June 3, 1980, the structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
architecture
The Masonic Temple is made of wood and is two stories high. The sheet metal clad facade gives the house the massive impression of a brick building. The cornice is decorated with narrow consoles , while a frieze with a festoon forms the end. The Masonic Temple is a regionally unique example of the Neo-Renaissance, which was very widespread in the rest of the states except Hawaii in the 1880s and 1890s.
