Chena River |
The Chena River is an approximately 160 km long right tributary of the Tanana River in the interior of Alaska .
It arises on the western flank of the White Mountains at the confluence of its headwaters North Fork and West Fork Chena River . The Chena River flows westward, crosses the city of Fairbanks and joins the Tanana River 10 km further west-southwest .
Five tributaries, North Fork , South Fork , West Fork , Middle (East) Fork and the Little Chena River , feed the Middle Fork that becomes the Chena River. On the upper reaches of the river, the Chena River State Recreation Area is an approximately 1000 km² state park .
In the north of Fairbanks, the branches Chena Hot Springs Road from Steese Highway to the east and leads along the river to Chena Hot Springs on the North Fork . In the settlement there is a thermal spring with a resort , which is supplied with energy by Alaska's first low-temperature geothermal system.
