Massage chair
A massage chair is a piece of furniture that is used for massage . Simple models only massage the back , more elaborately designed armchairs can also massage other parts of the body, such as the shoulders , pelvis , legs and feet, as well as arms and hands .
In appearance, massage chairs are similar to reclining chairs , but inside they are equipped with electrically operated devices such as motors, gears and rollers. Very simple and inexpensive massage chairs only vibrate over a large area in order to create a general feeling of well-being in the person sitting. With better equipped armchairs, several independent devices are built into the seat cover, which enable a targeted and individual massage.

In order to achieve the massage effect, the appropriate tools are mechanically moved laterally towards the body and towards the body, air cushions are inflated and deflated or air currents are generated to imitate a massage performed by a masseur . Massage chairs can be used when there are no contraindications for massage, such as for pregnant women , for injuries , inflammation or other skin diseases .

The first models were offered by a Japanese manufacturer in the 1960s. Today there are numerous providers, including those from Germany, such as massage chairs with coin slots that are used at airports and train stations.
