The evening paper - 8 o'clock sheet
Die Abendzeitung - 8-Uhr Blatt was a tabloid in Nuremberg. It was created in 1964 as a regional offshoot of the Münchner Abendzeitung , became a formally independent paper in the Nuremberg Oschmann publishing group in 2010 and finally discontinued in 2012.
history
The Nuremberg edition of the evening newspaper was created in 1964 by taking over the 8 o'clock paper , which appeared there for the first time in 1918 . Local news and the regional parts of culture and sport came from the Nuremberg editorial team, while the main section with politics and business was taken over from Munich. In 1986 one participated in the establishment of the first private radio station in Nuremberg: Radio Gong Nuremberg (today Radio Gong 97.1).
In 2010, the publishing house of the Abendzeitung sold its Nuremberg edition including the advertising paper Der Frankenreport to “media-regional”, a company owned by the Nuremberg telephone directory publisher and radio entrepreneur Gunther Oschmann . A cooperation between the two editions in Munich and Nuremberg was initially retained, as was the title. The coat was still obtained from Munich. The Federal Cartel Office granted approval on March 1, 2010 for the acquisition of control applied for on January 27, 2010.
When in 2011 a son of the Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann worked as rapper Jackpot u. a. An editor of the Nuremberg AZ wrote an article about drug abuse. However, this never appeared there, since publishing director Harald Greiner, citing the "close friendship of the two families Herrmann and Oschmann", prevented the publication against the bitter resistance of AZ editor-in-chief Andreas Hock. There was no intervention by Hermann or his ministry. However, through an exchange of content with the former Munich sister paper, which is still connected, the article was published by the local AZ. The background to the self-censorship only came to light in November 2012 when Olaf Przybilla published an article about it in the Süddeutsche Zeitung . He interpreted this as a symptom of the decline of the paper once known for its independent and critical journalism. The incident put a strain on the relationship between editor-in-chief Andreas Hock and the commercial management of the publishing house.
The sold circulation of the Nuremberg evening newspaper fell in the third quarter of 2012 to less than 14,000 copies a day. On September 27, 2012, the management announced the end of the Nürnberger Abendzeitung on September 29; 35 employees lost their jobs. In 2016 the publishing house "Die Abendzeitung - 8-Uhr Blatt" GmbH & Co. KG finally went into formal liquidation .
