Radoniq Lake Massacre

The massacre of Radoniq lake or lake radonjić massacre ( Albanian  Masakra e liqenit të Radoniqit , Serbian Масакр на Радоњићком језеру Masakr na Radonjićkom jezeru ) was on 9. September 1998 exerted massacre of at least 34 Serb and Albanian civilians by members of the paramilitary Organization of UÇK and Albanian civilians near Lake Radoniq near Gjakova in western Kosovo . The massacre took place during the Kosovo war .

The majority of the ethnic Albanian population inhabited Kosovo was at that time a province of Serbia within the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia . From 1994 the UÇK ( "Liberation Army of Kosovo" ) was formed, an Albanian paramilitary organization that fought for an independent Kosovo. In this way, parts of the UÇK also sought to unite all areas in Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Greece with the majority of ethnic Albanians with the motherland Albania. During the Kosovo war the massacre on Lake Radoniq occurred.

Near the village of Gllogjan, about 30 Serb civilians were abducted by members of the UÇK, among them Idriz Gashi , Martti Harsia , Avni Krasniqi and Sanija Balaj . Among the abductees were five Albanians who were against the KLA or who did not support its political goals. Eventually 34 of the abductees were murdered and the bodies thrown into Lake Radoniq.
