Massimiliano Civica

Massimiliano Civica (born 1974 in Rieti ) is an Italian theater director .

Life

After graduating in Metodologia della critica dello spettacolo at La Sapienza University in Rome , he studied at Odin Teatret with Eugenio Barba and later joined the directing course at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts. Finally he worked at the Teatro della Tosse in Genoa and with Emanuele Luzzati and Tonino Conte.

In 2007 he became artistic director of the Teatro della Tosse and realized the three-year Facciamo insieme teatro project , which was awarded the ETI Prize.

With his Il mercante di Venezia ( The Merchant of Venice ), he won the “Premio Ubu” (Ubu Prize) for best director in 2008, and the “Premio Vittorio-Mezzogiorno” (Vittorio Mezzogiorno Prize) in 2009.

In 2010 he directed Un sogno nella notte dell'estate ( A Midsummer Night's Dream ) based on the work of William Shakespeare and directed it at the Teatro Stabile dell'Umbria. In 2012 he directed Soprattutto l'anguria , a play about the relationship between two brothers.

In addition to conducting acting workshops, he was a university lecturer at the chair for Metodologia della critica dello spettacolo at the University of La Sapienza and director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Genoa.

In 2015 he again won the “Premio Ubu” in the category of best director for Alcesti ( Alkestis ) by Euripides .

In 2016 he made his debut with Un quaderno per l'inverno , a piece by Armando Pirozzi, which won the Premio Ubu for best director (ex aequo with Massimo Popolizio) and the best Italian text.

In January 2018 he became artistic advisor to the Teatro Metastasio in Prato (Tuscany) .
