Mast track
In sailing ships, the mast track is a holder for the mast base , which enables it to be moved in the longitudinal direction of the ship and thus a change in the rig trim . If the mast base is moved, the mast fall ( mast inclination) changes if the lengths of the fore and backstays are not changed.
In the past, the mast track was usually simply a notch in the keel that led the mast foot to the side. Today, depending on the design of the ship, special fittings are used.
- In dinghies and other open boats ( Viking ships ), the mast track is found on the keel pig
- In closed yachts , the mast track is found on the ship's deck, which is reinforced to absorb the load . However, the position of the mast along the track can only actually be varied on yachts with a distinctly sporty design.
