Mataratara is a forest and historical area in northern Namibia not far from the city of Rundu .
It is one of the few dense forest areas in the area. Due to the forced resettlement of the Mangarangandja and Sarusungu in the 1960s, of which some graves are evidence, the area gained historical importance. In 1973, in the Rundu Chiefs Club House , the South African administration handed over Okavangoland as the homeland of the Kavango .
Since September 1st 2011 the area has been a national monument of Namibia .
