Mateba

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mateba is the brand name of a range of revolvers . They were developed by the Italian Emilio Ghisoni . The company name (company) Mateba is an abbreviation for Macchine Termo Ballistiche ("Thermo-Ballistic Machines"). The company existed until 2005.

philosophy

Even before his first revolver, Ghisoni designed the conventionally constructed semi-automatic sport pistol MT1 in caliber .22 long rifle and produced it under the brand name Mateba (MT is another abbreviation of the name M achine T ermo Ballistiche ). Ghisoni's goal when designing his later weapons was to develop revolvers with a shooting behavior similar to that of a pistol . The common feature of the Mateba revolver is therefore the comparatively low barrel axis . In almost all conventionally designed revolvers, the barrel, in the chambers of which the cartridges are stored, lies above the trigger . The tube usually connects to the uppermost cartridge chamber. The axis of the barrel is therefore very high above the handle. As a result of this height offset between the action vector of the recoil and the firing hand, the muzzle of revolvers usually flips up more than with comparable pistols. Ghisoni tried to solve this problem and construct a revolver that was superior to sport shooting .

Mateba MTR

The first revolver series produced in the early 1980s under the brand name Mateba is called MTR (for M achine T ermo Ballistiche R evolver ). The MTR-8 model is designed for 8 cartridges in the caliber .38 Special / .357 Magnum , the drum of the MTR-12 holds 12 cartridges in the caliber .32 S&W Long , the MTR-14 revolver built for the caliber .22 long rifle over a 14-part drum. The revolvers have a closed frame with a drum that swings out for loading and unloading, the cartridges are held by an attachment resembling moon clips .

In the case of revolvers of the MTR series, the drum lies comparatively low in a direct line in front of the trigger, instead of above the trigger as is usually the case. The barrel is conventionally mounted in front of the uppermost cartridge chamber of the drum, but since the drum is generally lower, the axis of the core ultimately runs directly above the handle, in a position very similar to that of most pistols. The disadvantage of this design is the comparatively large overall length of the weapon with a very short barrel length.

Mateba 2006

Shortly after the MTR series, the Mateba 2006 model in caliber .357 Magnum or .38 Special came onto the market in the early 1980s . In contrast to the MTR revolver, the drum is conventionally located above the handle and trigger, but the tube is unusually mounted in front of the lowest chamber position of the drum. The axis of the soul is again approximately at the level of the upper edge of the handle, the line of sight is relatively far above the barrel. Since the barrel is very deep, the drum crane is in the upper part of the frame and the drum is swiveled upwards.

Mateba 6 Unica

Mateba 6 Unica

From 1998 Mateba produced the semi-automatic revolver Mateba 6 Unica with different barrel lengths, initially in .357 Magnum and from 2002 also in .44 Magnum and .454 Casull . The barrels are screwed in and can be changed using a barrel wrench. Certain versions of the Mateba 6 Unica were given different names depending on the barrel length and caliber:

  • Car revolver 6-Defense in .357 Magnum with 4- inch barrel (101.6 millimeters)
  • Car revolver 6-Home Protection in .44 Magnum with 5-inch barrel (127 millimeters)
  • Car revolver 6-Dynamic-Sportiva in .357 Magnum with 5-inch and 6-inch barrel
  • Car revolver 6-Hunter in .44 Magnum with 8-3 / 8-inch barrel (213 millimeters)
  • Mateba Grifone , a revolver rifle derived from the Mateba 6 Unica with an 18-inch barrel (457 millimeters)

technology

In the Mateba 6 Unica, too, the barrel is located in front of the lower chamber of the drum. The frame is open at the top so that the drum crane is located in the lower, here very stable frame part, as with the standard turret designs. The drum is swiveled downwards accordingly on the left-hand side. The Mateba 6 Unica is a recoil loader, the drum and drum frame of which slide about 15 millimeters backwards on a slide when firing, similar to a self-loading pistol, and are pushed forward again by a spring. When sliding back, the cock is cocked; when sliding forward, the drum is rotated one chamber by lever. The return system has no locking, so that the self-loading principle is similar to that of an unlocked spring-mass lock. Since the drum is completely loaded after loading, unlike self-loading pistols, no manual loading against the very strong spring is necessary (spring force with .357 Magnum approx. 120 N ). Empty tubes are not automatically ejected; they have to be removed by a conventional ejector with the drum swiveled out. The trigger can be used as a single-action or double-action trigger. In contrast to standard turrets, the recesses for the drum stop are not located on the outer circumference of the drum, but on its rear side.

As with the 2006 model, the sight line is relatively far above the barrel, the rear sight is not adjustable, and all sight settings are made on the front sight. This ensures that the barrels can be exchanged more easily.
