The Matheson Glacier is an 18 km long glacier on the Black Coast of the Palmerland in the southern part of the Antarctic Peninsula . It flows 3 km south of the Ashton Glacier parallel to it in an east-southeast direction to the west side of the Lehrke Inlet .
Aerial photos of the glacier were taken in 1940 during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). He was probably also spotted by the team that explored the coast near the glacier during this research trip. A team made up of members of the US Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948) and the British Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) mapped it in 1947. The FIDS named it after John Matheson (1893–1970) who worked for the survey on the bases at Port Lockroy (1943–1944) and in Hope Bay (1944–1945).
