Mathias Knoppe

Mathias Knoppe (born November 16, 1966 in Brandenburg an der Havel ) is a German photographer.

life and work

Knoppe was trained as a photographer from 1983 to 1985 at the Photo School of the GDR in Potsdam . During this time, around 10,000 black and white photos were taken in Brandenburg an der Havel and the surrounding area, as well as of the young people living there. A selection of these recordings appeared, together with photographs by the artists Hans Hoffmann and Alexander Pollok, on November 23, 2013 in the illustrated book OST COLA, which is published worldwide, a. a. was sold to the USA, Japan and Australia. In 2013 and 2014 an OST COLA exhibition took place in the Brandenburg State Archaeological Museum .

On a trip to Cuba with the Chilean-German actor Yuri Gárate in January 2001, Knoppe was the last German photographer to photograph the Cuban photographer Alberto Korda .

Knoppe has lived in Hamburg as a freelance photographer since 1998. He mainly takes portraits and has u. a. Boris Becker , Angela Merkel , Keni Burke , Julia Valet , Buddy Buxbaum , Maxi Jazz , Natalia Avelon and Ralph Giordano photographed.
