The Salcher family were Austrian industrialists who founded and ran the Harlander Coats in St. Pölten between 1858 and 1923 . Today, in addition to the many buildings that were built under her leadership, Salcherstrasse in Harland is a reminder of her work.

Mathias Salcher senior

Mathias Salcher, born on July 14, 1803 as a farmer's son in Maria Luggau in the Lesachtal, learned the craft of weaving in Passau and moved to Vienna in 1828, where he founded a company that produced ribbons and braids. From 1840 he also produced silk buttons and employed 20 workers. In 1859 he had Austria's first iron yarn factory built in Harland , and his sons became partners. He died in Harland on November 14, 1879.

Josef Salcher senior

Josef Salcher was born on March 20, 1830 as Mathias Salcher's second son in Vienna and learned weaving in his father's business. He took over the management of the Harland plant in 1859. Josef Salcher was considered a benefactor, among other things he founded the school in Stattersdorf . He died on November 15, 1889.

Josef Salcher junior

Josef Salcher was born as the first son Josef Salcher seniors on December 31, 1861 in Brunn near Pyhra. He took over the commercial management of the operations in Harland after the death of his father. Under his leadership, the Georg spinning mill was built in Ochsenburg and the company was converted into a stock corporation. He died on April 7, 1920.

Carl Salcher

Carl Salcher was born in 1863 as the second son, Josef Salcher seniors. After the death of a father, he took over the technical management of the company. The St. Pölten tram was founded on his initiative , and he was mayor of Pyhra . He and his wife Laura had a daughter named Hedwig, who was the last of the Salcher family to live in Harland. He died on December 21, 1906.

Ferdinand Salcher

Ferdinand Salcher, Mathias Salcher's third son, founded a subsidiary of "Mathias Salcher & Sons AG" ( MASSAG ) in Wagstadt ( Austrian Silesia ) for the production of buttons. He died on August 18, 1889 in Wagstadt.

Robert Salcher

Ferdinand Salcher and his brothers took over the branch of "Mathias Salcher & Söhne AG" ( MASSAG ) in Wagstadt from his father Ferdinand Salcher . He died in Wagstadt in 1935.
