Status: end of career

Mathias Surmann (born December 19, 1974 in Thuine ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach .

Career

He started his career in Emsland with SG Freren. As a teenager he switched to Olympia Laxten, where he made the leap to the first team and played for the next eight years. Surmann then played in the 2nd Bundesliga under the then coach Paul Linz for SV Meppen and went to SpVgg Greuther Fürth in July 1998 , for which he was active until 2006. For the 2006/2007 season Surmann finally moved to VfL Osnabrück, with whom he was promoted to the second division .

Surmann made his second division debut for VfL on November 1, 2007 in a 2-1 win against 1. FC Köln . Before that, he had already played 192 second division games for SpVgg Greuther Fürth and SV Meppen .

After Surmann ended his career in the Bavarian national league at TSV Neustadt / Aisch , he was hired by SpVgg Greuther Fürth as assistant coach of the U-23 team in the summer of 2011. In the absence of head coach Ludwig Preis , who after the dismissal of Mike Büskens, initially as an interim coach and later, due to the lack of a football instructor license, looked after the professionals as assistant coach until the end of the season, Surmann took over the post of head coach of the U-23. In the summer of 2014 he left the club again. From 2015 to 2016 he looked after the FSV Stadeln in the state league.
