Ludwig Preis (born November 11, 1971 in Passau ; † May 27, 2017 there ) was a German football player and coach .

Career

As a player, Preis went through all the youth teams of 1. FC Passau . At the age of 16 he was already playing for the Passau first team in the regional league. He then played for TSV Vestenbergsgreuth , SpVgg Bayreuth , SpVgg Jahn Forchheim and from 1999 for 1. SC Feucht , where he ended his active career and then became assistant coach.

From 2006 to 2010 Preis was the head coach of TSV Neustadt / Aisch, with whom he rose from the regional league of Middle Franconia to the regional league and qualified for relegation to the Bayern league . In the summer of 2010 he was initially coach of Baiersdorfer SV for a short time before he took over SC Eltersdorf at the end of August 2010 .

Here Preis celebrated his greatest success: he took over the club in danger of relegation, won the championship in the same season and led the team to promotion to the Bayern League . In the following season, the surprising promotion to the newly founded Regionalliga Bayern succeeded . Surprisingly, after a 3-1 win against the amateurs of Bayern Munich, he announced his resignation for professional reasons during the winter break.

At the beginning of 2013, Preis took over the position of head coach of the second team at SpVgg Greuther Fürth . After Mike Büskens was on leave , Ludwig Preis became interim coach of Greuther Fürth's Bundesliga team on February 20, 2013. Preis made his debut as a Bundesliga coach on February 24, 2013 in the 0-0 draw between Fürth and Bayer 04 Leverkusen . After two more games, in which the team scored another point, Preis moved to the post of assistant coach alongside the new head coach Frank Kramer until the end of the season due to the lack of a football instructor license . In 2013/14 he trained again as head coach for the U-23s. He has not coached a team since summer 2014.

Ludwig Preis died in May 2017 at the age of 45 after a long illness.
