Mathieu Guidère
Mathieu Guidère (* 1971 in Tunisia ) is a French linguist and translation scholar who teaches Islamic studies as a university professor at the University of Toulouse II-Le Mirail .
Life
Mathieu Guidère studied Oriental Studies and French Literature at the University of Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV) . At the same time, he graduated from the École supérieure de cadres interprètes-traducteurs (ESUCA), whereupon he worked as an interpreter and translator (French, Arabic and English) from 1995 to 1997 . After Agrégation specialist Arabic he received his doctorate in 1998 in French Linguistics at the University of Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV) . He then obtained the diplôme d'études approfondie (DEA) in oriental studies, which corresponds to a research-oriented master's degree . With the habilitation à diriger des recherches (HDR) he qualified for the professorship. From 1998 to 2003 he taught language and translation studies at the University of Lyon II . Mathieu Guidère then taught and researched at the Saint-Cyr Military School before moving to the University of Geneva to study translation in 2007 . In 2011 he followed the call to the University of Toulouse II-Le Mirail.
research
In addition to the interest in linguistics and translation studies, Islamic studies is another research focus of Mathieu Guidère. International media often consult him as a terrorism expert. He has written more than 20 works on the Arabic language and culture as well as radical Islamism and global terrorism . He is particularly interested in the connections between language, violence and politics. Topics such as politicizing speech, discourse strategies of Islam , language and ideology , information and propaganda , communication and security are therefore the subject of his research.
