With Matt fire small are abrasions of the skin called the same on contact with a mat arise when rubbed an unprotected part of the body unfavorably on the mat area. The connection with the contact with the mat and the resulting burning sensation explain the name.
When dermatologists and sports medicine and is so often Matt fungus named in the vernacular also Ringer fungus , one of wrestlers known skin infection. The fungal skin disease caused by Epidermophyton or Trichophyton is called Tinea corporis gladiatorum. In general, mat burn is not associated with an infection.
The term is used in particular by those practicing Japanese martial arts that are practiced on mats, such as Aikido or Judo .
