Hjortø ( German  also Hjortö ) is a Danish island in the " Danish South Seas " south of Fyn ( German  Fyn ).

history

The island belongs to the parish community ( Danish : Sogn ) ( Drejø Sogn , which belonged to Harde Sunds Herred in Svendborg Amt until 1970 ), then to the "old" Svendborg Kommune in Fyns Amt , and since the municipal reform on January 1, 2007 it belongs to the "new" Svendborg municipality in the region of Syddanmark . There are 7 residents (January 1st, 2020) on the island, which also has a small marina. With this, Hjortø, which is also part of the Association of Danish Small Islands, replaced Birkholm as the smallest inhabited island in Denmark with a size of 90  hectares in 2010 .

traffic

There is a ferry connection to Svendborg on Fyn. The ferry runs twice a day except on Saturdays, and three trips are made in the summer season. It transports up to twelve people and one car. The crossing takes an hour.
