Matteo Capranica
Matteo Capranica (born August 26, 1708 in Amatrice ( province of Rieti ), † around 1776 in Naples ) was an Italian composer of the Neapolitan school .
Life
Matteo Capranica was educated in Naples at the Conservatorio di Sant'Onofrio a Porta Capuana under Nicola Porpora , Ignazio Prota and Francesco Feo . After completing his training, he became maestro di cappella at various churches in Naples and dealt with sacred and secular music. For many years he was the organist of the second choir at the Cathedral of San Gennaro in Naples . His first opera, the commedia per musica Il Carlo , premiered in 1736 at the Teatro Nuovo . By 1753 he composed eight other operas, and he added the score left incomplete by the sick Leonardo Leo to his opera La fina frascatana . His other famous works include 2 oratorios ( Debbora (1742) and Isacco ), 2 masses, 2 sonatas, a cantata (1748), several arias and vocal duets, and six toccatas for harpsichord.
