Ignazio Prota
Ignazio Prota (born September 15, 1690 in Naples , † in January 1748 there ) was an Italian composer and music teacher.
Life
Ignazio Prota received his first music lessons from his uncle Filippo Prota, a clergyman who worked as Kapellmeister at the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore. From 1706 Prota was among other things a student of Gaetano Veneziano at the Conservatorio di Santa Mario di Loreto . A first compositional contribution to an opera dates back to 1720, when Prota made additions to Carlo Francesco Pollarolo's Tito Manlio , which were performed in the theater of the Real Palazzo and at the Teatro San Bartolomeo.
His first opera buffa La finta fattucchiera was performed in 1721 at the Teatro de 'Fiorentini. From 1722 until his death he was a teacher at the Conservatorio di Sant'Onofrio a Porta Capuana , where among his students were Gaetano Latilla , Gennaro Manna , Matteo Capranica and Niccolò Jommelli .
His son Tommaso Prota (1727– around 1768) and his grandson Gabriele Prota (1755–1843) were also successful composers and band masters.
