The Matterson Inlet is an ice-filled, fjord-like bay on the Shackleton Coast of the Antarctic Ross Dependency . It lies between Cape Douglas and Penny Point on the western edge of the Ross Ice Shelf . The Entrikin Glacier flows into it.
Participants in a campaign carried out from 1960 to 1961 as part of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition named it after Garth John Matterson, the leader of a group on this expedition that carried out survey work in the area of the inlet.
