Life

After graduating from high school, Schilcher studied surveying at the University of Stuttgart from 1968 to 1972 . He then worked there until 1979 as a research assistant at the Institute for Photogrammetry with Friedrich Ackermann , where he earned his Dr.-Ing. In 1980 on "Empirical-statistical studies of the accuracy structure of photogrammetric aerial photographs" . PhD . From 1979 to 1994 he worked at Siemens in the data technology area . In 1994 Schilcher was appointed professor for geographic information systems at the Technical University of Munich . However, he first had to develop this subject, initially in the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Surveying and from 2004 also at the Weihenstephan Science Center . From 2000 to 2003 he was Vice Dean and from 2009 a member of the Hans Eisenmann Center for Agricultural Sciences . Schilcher's retirement followed in October 2012 .

In 2000, Matthäus Schilcher was a co-founder of Runder Tisch GIS eV , whose chairman he was from its foundation until May 2014.

Research areas

Schilcher's research areas were, on the one hand, selected applications in public authorities, in the energy and construction industries, and agriculture, and, on the other, the basics of standardization in geospatial, 3D city models and mobile GIS.
