The Matthäuskirche is an Evangelical Lutheran church in the Thuringian town of Spechtsbrunn .

Matthew Church

The core of the listed church goes back to a chapel that was looked after by the parish of Marktgölitz in the late Middle Ages . The chapel is documented by a picture in the atlas of the geographer Paul Pfinzing from 1595. In 1722 the parish became independent and in 1746/47 a new church was built according to plans by the builder Krauße from Kahla with a floor plan of 18.5 meters in length and 9.5 meters in width. The construction costs were 1423 thalers , 21 groschen and 2 ½ pfennigs.

Pulpit

The pulpit altar was painted in 1779 by Johann Michael Eichhorn from Hasenthal . In 1790 the interior was redesigned in color by Georg Paul Amberg from Gera. Repairs were made in 1845 and 1851. During this time the old painting was painted over. As part of a comprehensive church renovation in 1911, Curt Steinberg redesigned the interior of the church in a colorful way, whereby the original baroque version was preserved, reconstructed and supplemented. An extensive renovation from the early 1990s was completed on September 21, 2008 when the congregation consecrated the church in the name of the evangelist Matthew .

In addition, a new organ from Sauer was installed in 1911 . The first organ from 1750 came from the Neustadt organ maker Wolff Heinrich Daun.

The north-east facing hall church has a mansard roof , which is closed on the south-west gable by a gable tower with an octagonal lantern and a Welscher dome . There are three bronze bells that were cast in the years 1952, 1846 and 1888 hang in the bell chamber. Below is the entrance building with a curved roof. The interior is spanned by a mirror ceiling with a ceiling painting depicting the crucified. A two-storey gallery stands on three sides of the wall. Pilasters with Corinthian capitals adorn the wooden supports. The entablature of the galleries is inscribed with the 23rd Psalm all around . The parapets of the pulpit are decorated with depictions of Christ and the four evangelists.
