Matthias Augustin (doctor)

Matthias Augustin (born February 24, 1962 in Göttingen ) is a German doctor, scientist and university professor at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and publisher and author of 15 specialist books and over 250 scientific papers. Augustin founded and heads the Eppendorfer Dialoge on Health Policy, is Chairman of the National Expert Debate on the Care of Chronic Wounds and President of the German Society for Preventive Medicine and Prevention Management.

Matthias Augustin attended elementary school and grammar school in Buxtehude / Lower Saxony and then studied chemistry at the University of Hamburg and medicine at the universities of Hamburg, Milan, Freiburg, Basel and Boston. After further training at the University Medical Center in Freiburg, he became senior physician and deputy director of the skin clinic. In 2004 Augustin was appointed professor for health economics and quality of life research at the University Medical Center Hamburg - Eppendorf. In 2005 he became head of the nationwide competence center for health services research in dermatology (CVderm) and in 2006 head of the competence center dermatological research (CeDeF).
