Matthias Büchner

Matthias Büchner (born June 30, 1953 in Zella-Mehlis ) is a German politician of the New Forum . He was a member of the Thuringian state parliament in the 1st electoral period 1990–1994 .

education and profession

After finishing school, Büchner became a gardener and flower maker (graduated in 1974). Matthias Büchner has been working as a freelance painter and graphic artist since 1979 .

Political engagement from 1989

In 1989 Büchner became the GDR-wide spokesman for the New Forum (NF), from 1990 NF spokesman in Thuringia . Until October 14, 1990, Büchner was actively involved in parliamentary control over the dissolution of the Ministry for State Security .

Member of the State Parliament 1990–1994

Matthias Büchner ran for the Thuringian state parliament and won a mandate. He was a member of the Thuringian state parliament in the 1st electoral period 1990–1994 for the New Forum and initially belonged to the New Forum / Greens / Democracy Now faction . From December 22, 1992 he was - together with Siegfried Geißler - a non-attached MP.

Matthias Büchner and Siegfried Geißler caused a scandal on October 25, 1993 at the Wartburg : The members of the Thuringian state parliament voted on Thuringia's new constitution in the last reading at the state parliament session - the two-thirds majority required for this was with the votes of the members of the CDU, FDP and SPD parliamentary groups. The council of elders of the Thuringian state parliament had determined that only the chairmen of the five parliamentary groups should have the opportunity to speak. The two non-attached MPs - both with a mandate from the New Forum - did not agree. They said that they also had the right to speak. Matthias Buchner tried during the session, to make himself heard, however, was of Landtagspräsident Gottfried Müller after three regulations Call expelled from the hall.
