Matthias Haustein

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Matthias Haustein (born July 31, 1965 ) is a German table tennis player and trainer. He represented the GDR at the 1990 European Championships.

Career

Matthias Haustein plays in the BSG Elektronik Gornsdorf club, with whose men's team he was East German champion in 1985, 1986 and 1990. In this club, which is now called TSV Elektronik Gornsdorf, he is still active in the top division.

In 1990 he took part in the European Championship for the GDR. This showed the lack of international practice among GDR athletes, caused by the competitive sports decision in 1969. The GDR men took 26th place out of 29 participating teams. In the individual, Haustein qualified for the main round, where he was eliminated in the first round. A win was also achieved in doubles with Bernd Buschmann , followed by a defeat against two Finns. In mixed with Janine Dietrich he lost after a bye in the second round.

Today (2012) Matthias Haustein works as a trainer in a table tennis school in Leipzig.
