Matthias Kneip

Matthias Kneip (born July 30, 1969 in Regensburg ) is a German writer and publicist .

life and work

Kneip studied German , Slavic and political science at the University of Regensburg . Between 1995 and 1996 he worked as a lecturer for German language and literature at the University of Opole in Poland , where his literary exploration of this country began and the first texts about Poland were published. In 1999 he did his doctorate at the University of Regensburg on the subject of "The political role of the German language in Upper Silesia 1921-1999".

Kneip works as a research assistant at the German Poland Institute in Darmstadt and as a freelance writer and Poland consultant for various companies. He is a member of the PEN Center Germany . In addition, he is one of the best-known mediators in German-Polish cultural exchange.

While Kneip's poems are characterized by a playful approach to language and subtle humor, and they often focus on Germany, his numerous journalistic essays and prose publications are mainly devoted to Poland, whose people and cities he is subtle and sensitive from a mostly personal one Describes perspective.
