Matthias Kroeger

Matthias Kroeger (born June 11, 1935 in Riga , Latvia ) is a German Protestant theologian .

Career

Kroeger studied classical philology and Protestant theology and after completing his doctorate became an assistant at the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen . In 1968 he completed his habilitation at the University of Göttingen . From 1971 to 1998 he was Professor of Church and Theological History at the Theological Faculty of the University of Hamburg . Kroeger supported the work of Aktion Sühnezeichen and KONTAKTE-KOHTAKTbI several times in helping survivors of the Shoah by collecting donations.

Research priorities and theology

Kroeger's research interests in the history of church and theology include the young Martin Luther , the Reformation , the theology of the Enlightenment , liberal theology , National Socialism and Friedrich Gogarten .

Originally inspired by the debate about the use of the law by Luther and parallel structures in Gestalt therapy , Kroeger developed theme-centered interaction and client-centered psychotherapy into theme- centered pastoral care and is involved as a teacher in this sense.

Kroeger actively participates in church and religious reform and encourages a distanced Christianity.
