Matthias Mülmenstädt

Matthias Mülmenstädt (born January 27, 1949 in Wolfsburg ) is a German diplomat . He was the German ambassador to Lithuania from 2011 to 2014 .

Life

Matthias Mülmenstädt graduated from high school in 1967. From 1967 to 1975 he studied politics, history and Russian to become a teacher. His community service followed his studies. He completed his teaching traineeship in Hessen. From April 1979 to 1981 he was in the preparatory service for the Foreign Service.

Diplomatic missions

Matthias Mülmenstadt had his first assignment in the Foreign Service in the Soviet Union department of the Foreign Office. From May 1982 to August 1984 he was permanent representative at the Consulate General in Leningrad , then until August 1988 he worked in the Department for Disarmament of the Foreign Office. From August 1988 to January 1991 he was in the Political Department of the German Embassy in Washington under Ambassador Jürgen Ruhfus . From January 1991 to August 1995 Matthias Mülmenstadt was Deputy Head of Division Russia and the CIS in the Foreign Office, then until October 1998 Permanent Representative at the German Embassy in Tel Aviv . From October 1998 to July 2001 he was permanent representative at the Consulate General in Montreal , from July 2001 to July 2007 in the Office of the Federal President's Office for International Development, Africa and Asia, then from July 2007 to October 2010 he was the representative for Africa in the Foreign Office.

In September 2011 Matthias Mülmenstädt succeeded Hans-Peter Annen as the German ambassador in Vilnius . In September 2014 he was replaced by Jutta Schmitz .
