Matthias Paul (born February 24, 1977 in Meißen ) is a German politician ( NPD ). In 2004 he was elected to the Saxon State Parliament for the NPD , but resigned his mandate in 2006 on suspicion of possessing child pornography .

Career in the NPD

Paul joined the NPD in 1994 and was a member of the NPD state board, NPD district chairman in Meißen and Dresden and press spokesman and deputy NPD state chairman in the state association of Saxony . In addition to his party work, the trained reinforced concrete builder worked as an independent textile dealer in Meissen. He gave up this trade when he joined the Saxon state parliament.

Since 2004 he has been a member of the NPD parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament , of which he was a member of the parliamentary group. In the state parliament he was chairman of the state parliament committee for the environment and agriculture until the NPD lost the chairmanship of this committee due to the reduction of three of its members in December 2005. However, he was still a member of this committee and a member of the Committee on School and Sport.

On January 21, 2005, Paul and the NPD parliamentary group left the Saxon state parliament in order not to take part in a minute of silence for the victims of the National Socialist terror. The parliamentary group had previously applied for a minute's silence for the victims of the bombing of Dresden, which the state parliament administration had refused to accept.

Criminal proceedings for possession of child pornography

In 2006 Paul resigned from his mandate and all party offices after the Dresden public prosecutor's office searched his state parliament office and his private apartment on suspicion of possession of child pornography . The chairman of the Zwickau NPD district association, Peter Klose, replaced Paul in the state parliament. In 2009, the proceedings before the district court of Meißen were discontinued against payment of a sum of 1000 euros.
