Matthias Schierz

Matthias Schierz (*  1954 ) is a German sports educator and university teacher .

Life

Schierz studied educational science, politics and physical exercise at the University of Hamburg between 1974 and 1980 and then stayed as a research assistant in the educational science department at the university. In 1985, the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg accepted his doctoral thesis on the subject of "Teaching movement games: the basics of an exemplary teaching method". He was a substitute professor at the Flensburg University of Education , and from 1992 to 1996 Schierz held a position as a university assistant at the Institute for Didactics of Aesthetic Education in the Department of Education at the University of Hamburg under Professor Horst Ehni . After completing his habilitation in educational science in 1996, Schierz worked at the Ruhr University Bochum from 1996 to 2001 , before filling a professorship for sports education / sports didactics at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena from 2001 to 2003 . In 2003, Schierz switched to a professorship in the same department at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg . In January 2010 he became director of the Institute for Sports Science there.

His work focuses on physical education (interpretative teaching research), trainer training, the culture of movement in judo sports, questions relating to the subject of “competitive sports and school” and qualitative research methodology. To the “Handbuch Schulsport”, which appeared in 2010, he contributed the chapter “Teaching Concepts”.
