Matthias von Hartz

Matthias von Hartz (* 1970 in Augsburg ) is a German director, curator and festival director.

Life

Growing up in Augsburg and Lindau , he studied economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science and the University of Nuremberg , then directing at the Hamburg Theater Academy . He has staged at Kampnagel, at the Wiener Festwochen and at various city and state theaters. In 2001 he developed the political-artistic series go create resistance for the Deutsche Schauspielhaus Hamburg and subsequently curated projects for large theaters and museums.

Together with Tom Stromberg , he directed the Impulse theater festival in North Rhine-Westphalia (2006 to 2011) and relaunched and was responsible for the Hamburg International Summer Festival at Kampnagel (2007 to 2012). For the Berliner Festspiele he curated the now closed international festival Foreign Affairs from 2012 to 2016 . From 2016 to 2018 von Hartz was co-curator for international productions of the Athens & Epidaurus Festival and Artistic Advisor of the Manchester International Festival .

Since 2018, von Hartz has been the artistic director of the international performing arts festival Zürcher Theater Spektakel, founded in 1980 . He added various offers to the festival.

Matthias von Hartz was a member of the advisory board of the Goethe Institute for the Performing Arts and juror of the Elbkulturfonds for several periods
