Matthias von Lutzerath

Matthias von Lutzerath OSB († after 1542 in Dreis ) was a German abbot in the imperial abbey of Echternach .

Life

Matthias von Lutzerath was elected 56th abbot after May 3, 1539 by the convent of the Benedictine monastery Echternach with a majority of votes. However, this election was contested to the highest authority by one of the monks involved , without the reasons being known. After Emperor Charles V had decided in favor of Godefried von Aspremont, who became the 57th abbot in Echternach, M. v. Lutzerath flee from the monastery. A few years later he died of the plague in 1543 on an estate in the monastery in Dreis in the Eifel .
