Matthias von Saldern (educational scientist)

Matthias von Saldern (* 1953 ) is a German educational scientist and university professor at the University of Lüneburg .

Professional background

Matthias von Saldern did military service in the Bundeswehr and became an officer himself . He studied education and modern history at the Helmut Schmidt University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg and the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover . He received his doctorate ( summa cum laude ) from the University of Koblenz-Landau and qualified as a professor in educational science. He then taught educational science in Freiburg and business education in Kiel. He also worked in the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Education.

He was a member of the Institute for Education and the Institute for Evaluation and Quality Development at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg, as well as Vice President of the University for Research and Young Scientists. From 2008 to 2014 von Saldern was a member of the board of trustees of the university in Lüneburg, which was converted into a foundation university in 2004. Since 2014 he has been the managing partner of MvS Beratung UG, which works in the field of school development and policy advice.

He works u. a. for inclusion, for "longer learning together", for systems theory and for science and epistemology . Von Saldern was a member of the Education Committee of the German UNESCO Commission until 2017 and a member of the Inclusion Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development until 2016 . He was the founder and co-editor of the journal Empirische Pädagogik . He was awarded Patron Status and Longlife Membership by the SIG Study on Learning Environments of the American Educational Research Association .
