Matzlcatch
Matzlfangen is a traditional tricks game played by four people. Its origins go back almost 200 years in the Austrian-Bavarian region. It is still maintained in a few Austrian places today . The name comes from the particularly important ten card, the so-called Matzl or Matz .
history
Matzlfangen is an old card game that was mentioned as early as 1826 in the Bavarian Landbote , which is a game played by "master craftsmen, journeymen and apprentices" at home or in the coffee houses around the table next to German solo , Schafkopf , Cross mariage , grass cones etc. was played.
It is a tavern game that still belongs to Austrian village culture after it was introduced by peat cutters to the Upper Austrian Hackenbuch around a century ago , from where it spread to northern Flachgau . It has been the "standard game" in Hackenbuch for around 100 years.
Rules of the game
Today's rules of the game according to Daglinger follow.
General
Matzlfangen is played among four people with a double German (Tell) card game of 32 cards . The goal is to get more than 65 eyes.
Rank and values of the cards | ||||||||
rank | sow | 10 | K | O | U | 9 | 8th | 7th |

Values (eyes) | 11 | 10 | 4th | 3 | 2 | - |
The last trick is worth 10 eyes, so there are a total of 130, so you have to reach at least 66 to win.
Give and bid
You deal and play clockwise. The dealer deals two times four cards to each player. The last card belonging to the dealer is revealed to determine the trump suit . If the player on the right side of the dealer taps the deck, everyone gets all eight cards at once.
Now the players make their announcements, starting with forehand. Forehand must at least bid; then the others either have to pass with "continue" or make a higher announcement. If all pass, you play a shout. The five possible announcements are (in increasing value):
- Shouting : the normal game, with Forehand shouting any card he doesn't hold in one of the secondary suits; usually a sow (ace). Whoever has this becomes his partner until the next card distribution.
- Drift : When drifting , the announcer plays alone against the three opponents. The declarer may choose any color as a trump. Popular with "game", "a little one", "I've got one", "Pobe", or something similar.
- Envy game or trump : the envy game is the whipped card encoder trump everything else is like driving .
- Through : there is no trump suit in the through. The declarer must take all the tricks.
- Trump Through : As with through , but the card that the dealer has revealed is trump.
Play
In the through and trump through , the through player leads; otherwise forehand always plays. There is color , Trumpf and stitch forced . That means: color has to be served. If you can't serve, you have to play trump, and if you can triumph without denying color, you have to play. A player who can neither serve nor trump may admit any card. The trick belongs to whoever played the highest trump or, if no trumps are played, who brought the highest card of the suit led. Whoever wins the trick leads to the next one.
Syringes
Before the first trick, players can inject d. H. Make announcements that increase the play value. Each announcement increases the value by 1 point. The announcement must be made in the following order: Shot, Re, Sub, Dut, Hirsch, Gams, Jager, Gweih, Auffi, Drauffi.
Matzl
If a party to Matzl stings the opponent, it no longer automatically on any penalties ( "no water" or "syringe") to pay. If she wins the game too, she gets a bonus point.
