Grass cones
Grasobern , Grasoberln or Grünobern is a card game that was particularly popular in Bavaria , especially in the former Bad Aibling and Rosenheim districts , and was and is also played with great pleasure in Eastern Bavaria. This old Bavarian card game is threatened with extinction, and both cultural and traditional costume associations try to keep the game in memory through tournaments . Also from municipalities such as Markt Bruckmühl or from smaller local associations such as the voluntary fire brigade of Markt Metten tournaments in Grasobern, Schafkopf and other card games are held again and again.
Number of players and game material
It is always played by four players with a Bavarian card (32 cards ). Playing cards with the label Tarock / Schafkopf, from which the sixes are sorted out to win the grass, are common. Each player receives the same number (e.g. 40) game coins (blocks) at an agreed value (e.g. 5 cents); At the end of the day, the difference is balanced out by buying (loss) or selling (profit).

Ranking of cards
There are no trumps in conquering grass. The priority of the card values is based on the hierarchy customary for pure trickery games, i. H. the tens is classified between under and nines. The ranking of the card values in each suit is accordingly (starting with the highest card value): Pig (Ace, Daus )> King > Upper > Under> Tens> Nine> Eight> Sevens.

Game objective
Grasobern is a pure trickery game. Eyes like Schafkopf , Doppelkopf or Skat are not collected. The object of the game is to avoid the first and last trick. In addition, it is important to avoid the respective stitch that contains the grass upper. These tricks bring in bad luck , which means that the player who receives the tricks in question has to pay an agreed amount in (game) coins or game points. The goal of the game is to achieve all the tricks only in murder and stealth murder , while in begging it is to avoid all tricks. In the last three cases, it is not relevant for the game settlement who has the grass upper in his tricks.
Card distribution
Each player receives a total of eight playing cards, with four cards being dealt in clockwise order twice in turn. All cards are dealt. A talon as in the Bavarian Tarock game does not exist in conquering grass. However, if the player to the right of the dealer hits the pile of cards with his fist instead of withdrawing, the tariffs double and eight cards are dealt once per player in a counterclockwise direction.
Style of play
Game announcement
After each player has received his eight cards, the player to the left of the dealer ( forehand ) begins the announcement. The game forms murder or begging can be announced. In games of the same value (e.g. begging twice), the player sitting further in front (closest to the dealer's left) has a turn. However, murder always takes precedence over begging.
Normal game
If no player announces murder or begging, a normal game is played. Everyone plays against everyone. No parties are formed. Forehand leads to the first trick and all other players have to show their colors. If a player cannot use the color, he must admit the top of grass if he has it. If he does not have this in his hands either, the player can admit any card. In addition, the top of grass must be added to a played king of grass or to the played ace of grass. One block each has to be paid for the first and last trick. Whoever has the grass upper in his stitches pays two blocks. If a player gets all lousy tricks, i. H. the first and last trick as well as the grass upper, he is a pawn. The other players get up with the exclamation hello to draw his attention to the fact that he has to pay a total of four blocks. Payment is made in a common pot, which is distributed to the players in equal parts at the end or if necessary. If a player incorrectly admitted the grass waiter, he pays the two blocks due; the player in question will be punished for the wrong addition.
Other varieties
In addition to the normal game, there are three other game types:
- Murder,
- Begging and
- Sneak.
Murder (character assassination)
If a player is of the opinion that he is able to get all the tricks, he can announce a murder (which corresponds roughly to the solo tout with Schafkopf). The murder player can call a card from his opponent and exchange it for a bad card. In order to compensate for the advantage of the additional playing card, the player called up to exchange cards then has the right to call out a return beg (or also called re-beg ) and play. Otherwise the murderer plays his game. The other three players together form the opposing party in a murder. Unlike a normal game, in murder not everyone plays against everyone, but one against three. In a murder, the murder player always leads to the first trick, regardless of which player is in the forehand position. Four blocks are payable directly to the winner (s) for each opponent. However, if the player does not exchange a card, he automatically plays a master murder ; the tariff doubles.
Begging
If a player thinks he will not take a single trick, he can call a beg. If there is no murder or a man's begging against this announcement, the beggar player comes into play. As in murder, the other three players together form the opposing side of the beggar player. In this case, the beggar player also leads to the first trick. Each subsequent player must - as far as possible - pierce the cards played. So there is compulsion to stab. (Thus a player can also play a begging with a king in his own hand, since the ace of the corresponding suit has to trick this king.) As soon as the beggar player has to take even one trick, the game is lost for the declarer. Three blocks are to be paid directly to the winner (s) for each opponent. If the beggar player is sure to win, he can play what is known as a gentleman's beggar. To do this, he must reveal his cards after the first trick. The tariff doubles for men begging.
Sneak (surreptitious murder)
If a player has taken all the tricks from the start and is sure that he will also get the rest, he can announce a stalker. However, when the announcement is made, he must still hold at least three cards in his hand. Seven blocks are then payable directly to the winner (s) for each opponent.
