Maudud
Sharraf ad-Din Maudud ibn Altun-Tegin ( Arabic شرف الدين مودود بن التنتكين, DMG Šarraf ad-Dīn Maudūd b. Altun-Tegin ; died on October 2, 1113 ) was the Emir- Governor of Mosul from 1108 .
On behalf of the Seljuq sultan Muhammad I (r. 1105–1118), Maudud took control of Mosul in 1108, when its inhabitants drove the previous ruler Tschavli Saqao out of Mosul and opened the gates to Maudud.
In 1110 he besieged Edessa , but had to withdraw from a relief army under King Baldwin I of Jerusalem .
At the behest of the sultan, whose young son Mas'ud he had in his care, Maudud joined forces with several Islamic rulers, including Tughtigin of Damascus , to take action against the Franks from 1111 onwards .
When he entered the Great Mosque of Damascus on October 2, 1113 , he was stabbed by assassins . His host Tughtigin was suspected of having commissioned the murder.
