The Maumee Bay State Park is a State Park in Lucas County on Lake Erie in the far north of the US state of Ohio . The nature park area, consisting of mostly agriculturally unusable , swampy floodplains and wetlands in the delta of the Maumee River , was acquired by the State of Ohio in 1974 and legally designated as a state park used primarily for tourism in the following year.

Tourism use

The nature park, which covers a total of 1336 acres , has numerous holiday apartments and houses for visitors. Camping and private bed and breakfast offers outside the park area are further options. The leisure activities offered include “Murder Mystery Dinners”, hiking trails , cycling, fishing , hunting, picnic areas , winter sports, geocaching , bird watching and a visit to the state “Nature Center”. On the edge of the park there are also boat rentals , golf courses , an indoor swimming pool and a conference center that can be rented by companies.

The large number of commercial offers clearly shows that economic use as a recreational facility for inland tourism - unlike in Germany's nature reserves - is more in the foreground of the concept of the Ohio state authorities.
