Maura Jo West DeFreitas , née Maura Snyder (born April 27, 1972 in Springfield , Massachusetts ) is an American actress . Maura West is best known for the television series Young and Passionate - As the World Turns , which was broadcast on the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS). She played Carly Tenny (nee Snyder), a leading role in this soap opera . She currently appears as Ava Jerome on the television series General Hospital .
