Maurice Besset

Maurice Besset (* 1921 ; † December 8, 2008 ) was a French art historian who dealt with contemporary art and architecture .

Live and act

Besset studied at the École normal superieure , was from 1947 at the Institut français in Innsbruck , from 1958 at the Maison de France in Berlin and from 1969 to 1975 at the Museum of Grenoble . In 1969 he became a curator at the Musée d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris . He taught at the Universities of Besançon and Grenoble. Eventually he became a professor at the University of Geneva and director of the Institut national d'histoire de l'art .

He organized exhibitions on Max Bill (1969) and Roman Cieslewicz in Grenoble. In Paris he organized multidisciplinary exhibitions that combined photography, theater, film, architecture, painting and sculpture. In 1988 he organized the exhibition La couleur seule at the Museum Saint-Pierre in Lyon on the subject of monochromatic images .
