Maurice Denham

William Maurice Denham OBE (born December 23, 1909 in Beckenham , London , † July 24, 2002 in Northwood , London) was a British actor .

Life

Denham's acting career began in 1938 and spanned nearly sixty years. He played primarily supporting roles, including internationally known films such as His Biggest Bluff , Rebellion , Roar to the Devil , Sunday, Bloody Sunday and The Jackal . His voice was far better known in the English-speaking world: for example, he spoke all animal voices in the 1954 animated film Animal Farm and acted as the storyteller in the BBC radio comedy The Oldest Member . By 1997, the veteran actor worked in a total of over 200 film and television productions.

Denham was married once and the couple had three children. In 1992 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire .
