Maurice Gensoli

Maurice Gensoli (born July 4, 1892 in Oran , Algeria , † 1973 in Rouen , France ) was a French ceramist .

Life

Nothing is known in the literature about Maurice Gensoli's origins and training. From 1921 he worked as an auxiliary decorator at the Manufacture royale de porcelaine de Sèvres .

Gensoli belonged to the artist group L'Evolution , founded by the Éditeur d'art (art publisher) and sculptor Arthur Goldscheider in the early 1920s with representatives of Art Deco , whose work Goldscheider showed at the 1925 Exposition internationale des Arts Décoratifs et industriels modern .

In 1927 Gensoli was appointed head of the design studio in Sèvres and stayed with the company until he retired in 1959. Here he directed the ceramics department in the Art Deco style. For Sèvres, Gensoli designed simple and segmented cup shapes, which he decorated with colorful heroic figures and idealized landscapes. Gensoli created ceramics in the shape of stylized waves, seashells, exotic animals and human figures. In the 1950s he designed elegant, wave-shaped bottle vases and bowls with decorations such as stars, lacquer or mortar stones.

After the Second World War , Gensoli took part in various exhibitions.
