Maurice Sellin (born February 21, 1920 in Rosporden ; † August 3, 2016 ) was a French football player .

Career

The 174 centimeter tall defender Sellin began playing football in his home town at FC Rosporden . From there he moved to FC Nantes , which was founded in 1943 and whose historically first team he was part of. In this, the then 23-year-old was assigned the role of captain. In 1945 he made the leap into the second highest national league with the West French, which equated to promotion to professional football . He played in this league for a year before he was signed in 1946 by the first division side Stade Rennes UC . For this, the club paid a transfer fee of 500,000 French francs to Nantes.

In the Rennes jersey, he made his debut in the top division of France on September 12, 1946 in a 3-2 defeat at the Stade Reims . Then he had to fight for a place in the first team, but was never able to secure it permanently. The most successful year of his career was the 1948/49 season, in which he was regularly on the field with 23 appearances and took fourth place in the table with the team. After that, the coach used him less and less, but he remained loyal to Rennes despite everything. In the 1952/53 season he was hardly called up, so at the end of the season he decided to withdraw from the professional field at the end of 33 years after 84 first division games without scoring for Rennes and a second division year with Nantes. Then he let the amateur club UCK Vannes end his career.
