Mauro D'Alay

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mauro D'Alay (also: D'Alai), also known as Maurini (* around 1687 in Parma ; † February 11, 1757 there ) was an Italian violinist and composer of the late Baroque.

Life

Little is known about the career of Mauro D'Alay (Maurino), except that he was in the service of the Cathedral of Santa Maria della Steccata of Parma in the periods 1712-26 and 1730-39 . He accompanied Princess Elisabetta Farnese in 1714 on the occasion of her marriage to the Spanish King Philip V to Madrid, where he stayed for a long time. He also made other trips outside Italy, especially to London (1726–1728), where, according to Charles Burney , he performed his cantata Amo Deliso e ver with the singer Faustina Bordoni . In Germany he had contact with Johann Adolf Hasse .

As the Spanish Queen's favorite violinist, he was able to amass a considerable fortune. In his will, much to the annoyance of his relatives, he bequeathed two-thirds of it to the Ordine Constantiniano di San Giorgio of Parma, which had made him one of their commanders after his return from Spain.
