Mauro Galvano (born March 30, 1964 in Fiumicino ) is a former Italian professional boxer, European champion and world champion of the WBC in the super middleweight division.
Career
As an amateur, he was Italian middleweight champion in 1984 and Italian light heavyweight champion in 1985. At the European Championships in 1985 he was eliminated in the round of 16 against the Finnish Olympian Pekka Laasanen.
In 1986 he played his first professional fight. In the fight for the Italian championship in the light heavyweight division, he failed twice on later world championship challenger Mwehu Beya. In March 1990 he won the European super middleweight championship against the British Mark Kaylor and immediately afterwards in December 1990 the vacant WBC World Championship against the Argentine Dario Matteoni. This was followed by title defenses against Ron Essett and Juan Ferreyra. In October 1992 he lost the title to Nigel Benn due to tKo defeat . He also suffered a defeat in the rematch five months later.
By the end of his career in March 1997, he came to four European championship fights, but lost each to Vincenzo Nardiello , Henry Wharton, Frédéric Seillier and Andrei Schkalikow.
