Vincenzo Nardiello (born June 11, 1966 in Stuttgart ) is a former Italian professional boxer, two-time European champion and former world champion of the WBC in the super middleweight division.

His younger brother Giovanni Nardiello was among other things the 1999 World Cup challenger for Sven Ottke .

Boxing career

As an amateur, he was Italian light welterweight champion in 1984, Italian light middleweight champion in 1986 and Italian middleweight champion in 1987. His greatest international successes were the 2nd place in the light welterweight division at the European Junior Championships in 1984 in Tampere and the 5th place in the light middleweight division at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul .

In 1988 he turned pro and won 17 fights in a row, 11 of them prematurely. He then boxed in December 1991 for the WBA world championship in super middleweight, but was defeated against Víctor Córdoba . After four build-up wins, he won the EBU European Championship against the British Fidel Smith in December 1992 , but lost it in his first title defense in March 1993 to the Northern Irishman Ray Close. He won the title again in November 1993 against the Italian Mauro Galvano before losing it again in the first defense to the French Frédéric Seillier.

In the summer of 1995 he was defeated in the fight for the WBC World Cup against Nigel Benn , but finally won the title in July 1996 by beating Thulani Malinga on points . He lost two more WBC fights to Robin Reid and Richie Woodhall . He ended his active career in 1999.
