There followed three successful title defenses before he lost his World Cup crown on December 19, 1997 by a point defeat to the South African Thulani Malinga. After a build-up battle, he challenged the WBO World Champion Joe Calzaghe on February 13, 1999 and lost on points. He then remained inactive for more than a year. He then succeeded in a series of ten wins in a row, including beating the Argentine ex-world light middleweight champion Julio César Vásquez . In 2011, however, he returned to the ring with the aim of becoming British champion again. After four fights against lower-class opponents, although he had to admit defeat to Tobias Webb, he got the opportunity to win the British title at the end of 2012. However, he lost his fight against Kenny Anderson in the fifth round by technical knockout. In addition to his career as a boxer, he worked as a model and DJ, among other things .
