Orhan Delibaş

Orhan Delibaş (born January 28, 1971 in Kayseri , Turkey ) is a Dutch boxer of Turkish origin. Delibaş was a silver medalist at the 1992 Olympic Games and the 1993 European Championships .

Career

amateur

In 1991 Delibaş took part in the European Championships for the first time , but retired in the light middleweight division already in the first fight against the later European champion Israel Akopkokhyan, Soviet Union (21:10). At the World Championships in the same year, he failed in the preliminary round at the vice European champion and later World Cup third party Torsten Schmitz , Germany (18:14).

The following year Delibas qualified for the Olympic Games , where he won the preliminary round over Ki Soo Choi, South Korea (3-0). in the round of 16 over Chalit Boonsingkarn, Thailand (RSC 2nd), in the quarterfinals over the eventual professional world champion Raúl Márquez , USA (16:12), and in the semi-finals over Robin Reid , Great Britain (8: 3), before beating in the final Juan Carlos Lemus , Cuba (6: 1), lost and won the Olympic silver medal.

The following year Delibaş won the bronze medal at the Goodwill Games in Saint Petersburg .

In 1995 Delibaş reached the quarter-finals again at the World Championships (point defeat against Markus Beyer , Germany (8: 7)) before he switched to professional business that same year.

By 1999 Delibaş remained unbeaten in 22 fights and won the Benelux title. In his 23rd fight he got the opportunity to win the European Championship, but had to admit defeat to Mamadou Thiam (TKO 8th round). After another short round victory, he got his second title chance in his 24th win in 2000. This time he was defeated by Roman Karmasin by giving up in the third round, whereupon he ended his career. In 2008 Delibaş returned to the ring for two fights, both of which he won against lower class opponents.
