Life

Minniti became politically active for the first time in 1977 when he enrolled in the youth organization of the Movimento Sociale Italiano , the Fronte della Gioventù . In 1989, the Merano-based politician was elected to the Bolzano municipal council on the MSI party list. In 1994 he replaced Pietro Mitolo in the South Tyrolean parliament and in the regional council of Trentino-Alto Adige after he had been elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies in Rome. In 1995 the rather moderate Minniti supported the turnaround of Fiuggi , which was the starting point for the transformation of the neo-fascist Movimento Sociale Italiano into the national conservative Alleanza Nazionale (AN). In 1998, 2003 and 2008 he was re-elected. From 2008 to 2011 Minniti - chairman of his party's parliamentary group both in the state parliament and in the regional council - served as vice-president of the state parliament, in 2009 after the dissolution of the AN he became a member of the Popolo della Libertà . On May 18, 2011, he replaced Julia Unterberger in the office of President of the State Parliament on the rotation principle halfway through the legislative period , but resigned from the same on December 31, 2012 to devote himself to building a local section of the La Destra party . In the state elections in 2013 , Minniti, as the top candidate of his party, was unable to win a mandate with 0.6% of the vote and left the state parliament.
